Renovation Announcement

Renovation Announcement

by Wolf Pascoe on April 7, 2011

Today’s post takes care of some housekeeping matters. I’ll be as brief and charming as I can.

In ten days, Just Add Father will undergo a design renovation to a more spacious layout. I’ve been looking forward to this and working on it for some time. The content and blog address (https://justaddfather.com) will stay the same. Email subscriptions will be handled differently. (See below for details.)

A

If you happen to land here during the brief switchover process (it will happen the morning of April 17), you’ll see an “Under Construction” sign instead of the home page. Check back after a spell. You should find things up and running. Once the renovation is activated, please bear with me should I have to work out any kinks.

JUST ADD FATHER SUBSCRIBERS:

If you currently have an email subscription to the blog—that is, if you get an email reminder for each new Just Add Father post—you’ll need to sign up again to maintain your subscription. (I’m sorry 🙁 but this is unavoidable, as your current subscription won’t survive the renovation.) You can (and should) sign up right now by clicking on the RENEW EMAIL UPDATES link below. (The process is pretty straightforward, but if you’re new at it, there’s a description of what happens next at the bottom of this post.) Once you sign up for a new subscription, you’ll get duplicate e-mail updates (old and new) for the remaining few posts until the switchover, then a final notice that your old subscription has been retired. Here’s the link to start the new subscription:

RENEW EMAIL UPDATES

A

I love my email subscribers. You keep me motivated. I never tell anyone your email address. I hope you’ll want to re-enlist. The e-mail update’s raison d’être is simply to notify you that there is a new post—it will contain the first few lines with no artwork. Click on the title to be taken to Just Add Father in your browser to read the entry in its full glory.

If you forget to sign up now, simply find your way to Just Add Father after April 17. You’ll see a subscription link at the top of the right-column menu.

OTHER MATTERS

If you have a comment subscription—that is, if you’re receiving email updates for new comments to a particular post—that subscription will also lapse with the change. If you want to keep getting those email updates, you’ll have to sign up under the post when the renovated blog appears.

For those who currently subscribe to the blog by RSS feed, do nothing now. The RSS feed for justaddfather.com should not be affected. (If new posts stop being listed in your reader after April 17, go to https://justaddfather.com and click on the RSS link to sign up again.)

WHY THE CHANGE?

A couple of reasons. Though I like the current design of the blog—it reminds me of the friendly clutter of a used book store—I want to give each post more room to breathe. I’d like arriving visitors to feel a moment’s respite before they have to hurry on.

Second, the change will provide me with flexibility and tools to grow the blog’s readership. In the language of the Internet, I’ll be hosting my own blog. Your experience won’t change. I just want more of you reading Just Add Father.

If you read the blog, but do not currently have an email subscription, this renovation is a great time to consider one. There’s nothing like a subscriber to give a writer heart. You can join TENS of other subscribers who never have to worry about missing a single, action-packed episode of the amazing adventures of Just Add Father. Here’s the link again:

GET EMAIL UPDATES

A

I hope you like the new look. If you have any questions, email me, or leave a comment.

. . .

INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW:
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU CLICK THE SUBSCRIPTION LINK?

The UPDATE LINK will take you to a sign-up page. Enter your email in the address box. To be sure you’re not a robot, they want you to copy some squiggly letters that can’t be read by anyone into another box and click a “Complete Subscription Request” button.

TIP: If you can’t decipher the letters (I always have trouble), ignore them and click the “Complete Subscription Request” button anyway after entering your email. Voila! New squiggly letters arrive! You can keep clicking the “Complete Subscription Request” button until some letters appear that suit you. It’s very satisfying. When you get some letters you like, type them in the box and click “Complete Subscription Request” for the last time. Go have a cup of something soothing. I promise this is the last time you’ll see squiggly letters on this blog.

Soon you’ll get an email asking you to click on a link to confirm the subscription—this is to be sure that you’re really you. So, be sure that you’re really you. Then click on the link. That’s it. You’re done. Now you’ll always get an email update for every new post of Just Add Father. Should you want to cancel at any time, a link is always provided at the bottom of the email.

Done – and done!

Looking forward to your new more spacious layout. (I’ve tried to “renovate” my look-and-feel many times, and never been able to manage it… Maybe you will inspire me to try again, even though I suspect I need professional help to assist.)

Counting down…

🙂
